This canvas print presents Mount Fuji glowing red beneath a clear blue sky crossed by pale ribbons of cloud. Katsushika Hokusai created the scene around 1830–1832 for his celebrated series depicting thirty-six views of the mountain
“Fine Wind, Clear Morning” turns Mount Fuji into a vast, calm presence rising above a dark green forest. Morning light colors the slope brick red, while streams of snow near the summit resemble white lightning frozen in place. The cool blue sky is crowded with narrow cloud bands that suggest movement, although the mountain itself appears magnificently still. This canvas print preserves the bold contrasts and crisp visual rhythm associated with Ukiyo-e, giving the landscape a character that is both monumental and wonderfully simple.
Katsushika Hokusai created the scene around 1830–1832 as part of his celebrated series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. The mountain’s unusual red color is not pure fantasy: under rare conditions around sunrise, especially in late summer or early fall, Fuji can briefly acquire a reddish glow. The sight is fleeting, but Hokusai makes it feel permanent, as if the mountain has dressed for a grand occasion while the clouds hurry past like late guests. In the canvas print, that dramatic color becomes the central joke and marvel: an immovable volcano caught blushing.
