Mystic Nativity (1500) - Sandro Botticelli - Canvas Print
€ 65.00
This canvas print presents Sandro Botticelli’s mystical Nativity scene, where dancing angels fill a luminous golden sky. Earthly worshippers, anxious demons, and tender figures create a dramatic vision of peace after upheaval
“Mystic Nativity” turns Christmas into a dizzying vertical theater: beneath a thatched shelter, Mary bows toward the infant while visitors, animals, and kneeling angels crowd the earthly world. Above them, a ring of airborne angels dances against a blazing gold sky, their pale ribbons looping like music made visible. This canvas print preserves the startling ascent from shadowy ground to celestial celebration.
Painted in 1500, this High Renaissance vision is anything but a quiet bedtime scene. Its Greek inscription speaks of Italy’s troubles and draws on the Book of Revelation, while tiny demons flee into cracks in the ground and angels embrace human beings below. Sandro Botticelli makes apocalypse look unexpectedly festive: panic, prophecy, and tender reunion all share the same stage. In this canvas print, the hovering dancers seem almost to have forgotten that gravity was invited.
